Sinopsis / Plot:

Manolo y Lalo, obsesionados con la película de culto Alucarda, la hija del las tinieblas (1978), la cual afirman que es una representación de su vida, tratan de conseguir una copia. Buscan al director de la película, Juan López Moctezuma quien está internado en un hospital psiquiátrico ya que padece amnesia. Lo secuestran durante tres días, en ese lapso le muestran sus películas y lo llevan a las locaciones logrando que el director recupere la memoria. Como pago a su esfuerzo el director los convierte en herederos de su obra.

Manolo and Lalo, obsessed with the cult film Sisters of Satan (1978), which they are sure is a representation of their life. They try everything to get a copy. They seek out the film’s director, Juan López Moctezuma, and find him in a psychiatric hospital suffering from amnesia. They kidnap him for three days, during which time they show him his films and take him to locations, until they manage to help him regain his memory. As a reward for their help, the director makes them the inheritors of his legacy.

Egresado del Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, se especializó en realización y guionismo. Desde hace 10 años se dedica a la enseñanza cinematografíca en la Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad del Cine, Arte 7, Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Autónoma de México impartiendo las materias de Dirección, Guionismo, Crítica y Realización para Televisión.

A graduate of the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, he specialized in Direction and Screenwriting. El comandante Trujillo, un policía capitalino, viaja a Santa Rosa de la Sal para resolver el misterio de una serie de asesinatos. En este lugar, un pequeño pueblo cercano a una salinera, descubrirá los secretos que guarda la zona. En el camino conocerá a Víctor, un extraño joven oscuro e introvertido que muestra su desconfianza ante el mundo. Lo que Trujillo deberá comprender para esclarecer las muertes es que Víctor podría ser la clave para encontrar la verdad.

Commander Trujillo, a Mexico City cop, travels to Santa Rosa de la Sal to solve the mystery of a series of murders. In that place, a small town close to a salt mine, he will discover the secrets the area keeps. On the way, he will meet Víctor, a strange, dark, introverted young man who shows his mistrust of the world. What Trujillo must understand to clarify the deaths is that Víctor could be the key to the truth.

Mario Muñoz

Nació en la Ciudad de México el 24 de septiembre de 1970. Estudió Comunicación en la Universidad Iberoamericana y se especializó en el área de Cine. Fundó Imaginaria, una agencia y casa productora que ha estado íntimamente ligada al medio del entretenimiento, creando campañas para Televisa, Columbia Pictures, Buenavista International, Videocine y Editorial Hearst, entre otros. En 2002 Imaginaria organiza junto con Televisa y Videocine el concurso de argumentos para largometraje “Sin Escribir No Hay Cine”.

Born in Mexico City on September 24th, 1970, he studied Communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana and specialized in Film. He founded Imaginaria, an agency and production company that has been closely linked to the entertainment world, creating campaigns for Televisa, Columnia Pictures, Buenavista International, Videocine and Editorial Hearst, among others. In 2002, Imaginaria organized, with Televisa and Videocine, the contest for feature film screenplays.

Al morir el benefactor del asilo de ancianos El Refugio, la maltrecha vida de sus habitantes empeora seriamente. Los alimentos y las medicinas son racionados. Cuatro ancianos urden un plan para solucionar su patética situación: se convierten en los fundadores del Club Eutanasia, una agrupación secreta cuya senil y ridícula meta es la supervivencia asesinando a los otros internos para quedarse con su comida y medicinas. Los miembros del club eligen sus víctimas al azar. Todo marcha sobre ruedas, hasta el día en que uno de los miembros del club aparece muerto. Entonces la maraña de intrigas, traición y desconfianza los conduce a un final inesperado.

When the benefactor of the El Refugio Retirement Home dies, the grim lives of its inhabitants dramatically worsens. Food and medicine are rationed. Four elderly people come up with a plan to solve their pathetic situation: they become the founders of the Euthanasia Club, a secret group whose senile and ridiculous goal is survival; they kill other patients to keep their medicines and food. The members of the club choose their victims randomly. Everything is going well, until one day, one of the club members shows up dead. That’s when the tangle of intrigue, betrayal and mistrust leads them to an unexpected ending.

Agustín Oso Tapia

Licenciado en Filosofía por la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Recibió la beca de Jóvenes Creadores otorgada por el FONCA en la rama de Literatura. Estudió el curso general de cinematografía en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. Ha escrito cuentos, reseñas, guiones para cine, televisión, comics y documentales. Dirigió comerciales y videoclips para varias casas productoras. Sus trabajos han sido incluidos en la selección oficial de los festivales de cine más importantes de México. Club Eutanasia, su primer largometraje, se estrenó en la primavera del 2005, formando parte de la Selección Oficial del XX Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara, en donde obtuvo el Premio del Público, así como nueve nominaciones a las Diosas de Plata. En 2006 obtuvo la beca de apoyo a la producción artística otorgada por la Secretaría de Cultura del Estado de Michoacán a través del Sistema Estatal de Creadores. Gracias a los fondos de esta beca escribe, produce y realiza el largometraje documental titulado Los días sin Joyce (Un diario imaginario), mismo que ganó el Premio a Mejor Documental en el IV Festival Internacional de Cine de Baja California, así como la Mención Honorífica en el V Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia. En 2009 fue nominado a los Arieles en la categoría de Mejor Cortometraje Documental por su trabajo titulado Cine a mano. En 2010 escribió y dirigió varios capítulos de la serie de televisión Los Héroes del Norte, producida por Televisa Networks.

With a degree in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, he received a grant for Young Creators from the FONCA for Literature. He took the general film course at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. He has written stories, reviews, film, television, comic and documentary scripts. He has directed commercials and video clips for several production companies. His work has been included in the official selection of the most important film festivals in Mexico. Club Euthanasia, his first feature film, was premiered in the Spring of 2005, as part of the official selection for the XX Guadalajara International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award; it was later nominated for nine Silver Goddesses. In 2006, he was awarded a grant for support of artistic production by the Ministry of Culture of the State of Michoacán through the Federal Creators’ System. Using the funds from this grant, he wrote, produced and directed the documentary called The Days without Joyce (An Imaginary Diary)], which won the award for best documentary at the IV Baja California International Film Festival, as well as an Honorable Mention at the V Morelia International Film Festival. In 2009, he was nominated for an Ariel in the Best Documentary Short Film category for his piece called Film by Hand. In 2010 he wrote and directed several episodes for the Heroes of the North television series, produced by Televisa Networks.

In times of Don Porfirio, two dandies, Pérez and López, die in a duel over singer Ana (The Anklet), and their spirits are damned to wander as theater ghosts, where they will face off again and again until they reconcile. Fifty years later, the ghosts ask for the chance to redeem themselves. To get it, they must prove they are no longer rivals.

Situada en Tabasco durante la época precolombina, el filme narra la historia de Nikté, una niña huérfana de difícil carácter que desea ser princesa, y que para lograrlo, engaña a su pueblo haciéndose pasar por la esperada respuesta a una profecía. Lo que ella no sabe es que la profecía exigirá mucho más de lo que ella puede ofrecer y que para cumplirla, hay que caminar un difícil sendero de conocimiento interior donde se encontrará entre muchas aventuras, a ella misma y donde descubrirá que para ser el más grande, primero hay que ser el más pequeño.

Set in the state of Tabasco, in Pre-Hispanic times, the film tells the story of Nikté, a difficult orphan girl who wants to become a princess and, in order to get her wish, fools her town into believing that she is the hoped for answer to a prophesy. What she does not know is that the prophesy will demand more than she can offer and in order to achieve it, she must take a difficult path of internal knowledge where she will find herself after many adventures, and she will figure out that in order to be greater, she must first become smaller.

Desde que tiene uso de razón, el Agente Jesús Juárez o Chucho, como todos lo conocen, ha representado al mismísimo Diablo en la tradicional pastorela de su barrio. Sin embargo, esta Navidad las cosas están por cambiar cuando Chucho no llega a la repartición de papeles organizada por el nuevo párroco de la Iglesia, el exorcista Edmundo Posadas, con quien tendrá que entablar una feroz lucha, entre el bien y el mal, para recuperar lo que por tradición es suyo. As long as he can remember, police agent Jesús Juárez or Chucho, has played the role of the Devil himself in the traditional Nativity Play. However, this Christmas, things are about to change when the new priest and director of the play, Father and exorcist Edmundo Posadas, leaves him out of the main cast. Nació el 7 de diciembre de 1976, egresado del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica donde se especializó en guión y realización. En 2003 y 2009 recibió la Beca de Apoyo a Reescritura de Guiones que otorga el IMCINE, así como la Beca de Jóvenes Creadores para guión (FONCA 2003-2004, 2009-2010). Su primer largometraje Conozca la cabeza de Juan Pérez (2008) se estrenó en el XXIII Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara 2008, en la Sección Oficial de Largometraje Mexicano donde ganó el Premio a Mejor Ópera Prima y el Premio Guerrero a la Mejor Ópera Prima. En el Festival Expresión en Corto 2008 recibió el Premio de la Prensa.

Born on December 7th, 1976, he graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica where he specialized in screenwriting and directing. In 2003 and 2009, he received the Grant for Support for Rewriting a Screenplay given by IMCINE, as well as the Scholarship for Young Creators for Screenwriting ( FONCA, 2003-2004, 2009-2010). His first feature film, Meet the Head of Juan Perez (2008), was premiered at the XXIII Guadalajara International Film Festival 2008, as part of the Official Section for Mexican Feature Films, where it won the award for Best Debut and the Guerrero Award for Best Debut. At the Expresión en Corto 2008 Festival, he received the Press Award.

SANTA

Sinopsis/ Plot:

La humilde joven Santa es engañada por el militar Marcelino; despreciada por la familia, encuentra refugio en el burdel de doña Elvira. El pianista del lugar, el ciego Hipólito, se enamora en secreto de Santa y la protege cuanto puede. El torero Jarameño se encapricha con Santa y la convence de que vivan juntos. Después de una tarde desastrosa en la plaza de toros, Jarameño regresa a casa y la encuentra con Marcelino. El torero intenta asesinarla, pero logra controlarse y solamente la echa. Santa totalmente desilusionada, traicionada por la vida, empieza a frecuentar los peores ambientes, vive en la pobreza extrema y contrae una mortal enfermedad. A pesar de todos los esfuerzos de Hipólito, su salud empeora. Sólo una complicada operación podría salvarle la vida pero Santa muere en el quirófano. El desconsolado enamorado, coloca en su tumba todos los días unas flores blancas y llora por su ausencia.

Humble young Santa is fooled by military man Marcelino and cast out by her family. She finds shelter at Doña Elvira’s brothel. The place’s piano player, blind Hipólito, secretly falls in love with Santa and protects her when he can. Jarameño, a bullfighter, falls for Santa and convinces her to live with him. After a disastrous afternoon at the bull-fighting plaza, Jarameño returns home to find Santa with Marcelino. The bullfighter tries to kill her, but then regains control and simply throws her out. Santa, betrayed by life and without illusions, begins to frequent the worst places, lives in extreme poverty, and contracts a mortal disease. Despite Hipólito’s best efforts, her health worsens. Only a complicated operation could save her, but Santa dies on the operating table. Her secret lover places white flowers on her grave and cries for her every day.

Antonio Moreno

Nació en 1887 y murió en 1967. Su nombre verdadero fue Antonio Garrido Monteagudo Moreno. Fue uno de los símbolos sexuales del cine mudo en Estados Unidos, compartió carteles con Greta Garbo, Pola Negri, Gloria Swanson y Clara Bow. Dirigió The Veiled Mystery, (1920) y posteriormente varias películas en México.

Born in 1887, Antonio Garrido Monteagudo Moreno (his real name) died in 1967. He was one of the sex symbols of American silent movies, and shared marquees with Greta Garbo, Pola Negri, Gloria Swanson and Clara Bow. He directed The Veiled Mystery (1920) and later many films in Mexico.

SANTA CLAUS VS EL DIABLO

Sinopsis / Plot:

Santa Claus, desde lo alto en su castillo en las nubes, se prepara para distribuir regalos la noche de Navidad. En particular quiere ayudar a Lupita, la hija de una familia pobre, quien sólo quiere una muñeca, y a un niño cuyos padres son tan ricos que nunca pasan tiempo con él; sin embargo, el Diablo no quiere que nada de esto suceda, y manda a su asistente, Pitch, a arruinar los planes de Santa. Pitch, por su parte, contrata a tres niños malvados para poner trampas para Santa.

Santa Claus, high above the North Pole in his cloud-borne castle prepares to deliver presents on Christmas Eve. Santa is especially interested in helping Lupita, the daughter of a poor family who wants nothing more than a doll, and a young boy whose parents are so wealthy they never spend any time with him. However, the Devil will have none of this and sends his minion, Pitch, to foil Santa’s plans. Pitch in turn recruits three naughty boys to help him set traps for Santa.

René Cardona

Nació en La Habana, Cuba en 1905 y murió en la ciudad de México en 1988. Dirige su primer largometraje, Don Juan Tenorio, en 1937. Desde 1937 a 1986 dirigió más de cien películas, con las más grandes estrellas cinematográficas de México. Al final de la década de los cincuenta realizó dos películas destinadas al público infantil Pulgarcito (1957) y Santa Claus (1959), que le valieron varios premios internacionales.

Born in Habana, Cuba in 1905, he died in Mexico City in 1988. He directed his first feature film, Don Juan Tenorio in 1937. Between 1937 and 1986, he directed over 100 movies with the most important stars in Mexico. At the end of the Fifties, he made two films for children, Pulgarcito (1957) and Santa Claus (1959), which won him several international awards.

Alex Rivera

Nació en Nueva York en 1973, Alex Rivera es un artista digital que vive y trabaja en Nueva York. Su primer largometraje Traficante de sueños se estrenó en el Festival Sundance 2008, y ganó dos premios, incluyendo el Premio Waldo Salt por su guión. Rivera es becario de Sundance y de la Fundación Rockefeller. Su trabajo, que trata de las preocupaciones de la comunidad latina mediante un lenguaje de humor, sátira y metáfora, también se ha presentado en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín, el Museo Guggenheim, el canal PBS, Telluride y otros espacios internacionales.

Born in 1973 in New York, Alex Rivera is a New York based digital media artist and filmmaker. His first feature film, Sleep Dealer premiered at Sundance 2008, and won two awards, including the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Rivera is a Sundance Fellow and a Rockefeller Fellow. His work, which addresses the concerns of the Latino community through a language of humor, satire, and metaphor, has also been screened at The Berlin International Film Festival, The Guggenheim Museum, PBS, Telluride, and other international venues.
